AutoCAD is a series of programs to create and modify drawings, and to draw maps. AutoCAD is an acronym of the words „automated computer-aided design“. In the case of its release in 1986, it was first created for the Apple Macintosh, and later ported to Windows.

The original first version, produced under the company name Quartex Software, was introduced on 12 December 1982, under the name Calligraph.
