Simple interface, clear graph, check boxes for start on system startup and stay on top of other programs.
Visualization of the network traffic can be displayed in a pie, line, or ‚barrage‘ mode. You can zoom in and out (auto, 10%, 100%) and pan the graph area using the mouse.
To switch the graph between two views (source and destination) you can use the keyboard shortcut Alt-D.
The utility supports web servers, FTP servers, file sharing software, print servers, server logs, and many other traffic sources.
Beware that this utility has been tested successfully on Windows 98, Windows 2000, Windows XP and Windows XP SP1. It has not been tested on Windows 2000 SP3 or Windows Server 2003 and older.
Bandwidth Monitor Zed has been developed on Microsoft Windows NT platform. Unfortunately, we don’t know the developer’s intentions regarding support of other platforms.

Bandwidth Monitor Zed is a relatively simple application, allowing you to see the amount of bandwidth used by Internet applications, such as dial-up, DSL, or cable connection. Initially, the application displays a graph showing the total bandwidth usage (or in other words the amount of data transferred through your network adapter) and how long it took to reach its current state.
The software allows you to modify your settings at will, as well as zoom in and out, set the sampling time, choose the sample period, and manage the time indicator. Furthermore, the graph scale can be converted into bytes, kilobits, megabits, gigabits, and terabits.

At least 4 MB RAM, 64 MB of free space, and Windows® XP or Windows® Vista.
A side note: Bandwidth Monitor Zed uses quite a few of your CPU resources, but that should be taken into account since running most other programs won’t be affected.

I was using a program called Network Monitor, but I found it wasn’t displaying the data I was looking for. Bandwidth Monitor Zed does so. It’s easy to use and displays the data I need to see.

A lot of programs can be used for monitoring bandwidth, but it only takes a couple of minutes to set up Bandwidth Monitor Zed and it provides a great, simple interface for doing it. It displays data coming in and out of your computer. It has this nice animation and speedometer that shows how much data is being downloaded and uploaded.

If you don’t like the default speedometer, it’s easy to change it. It automatically updates the graph every second or so and the graph can be zoomed in for better view of your network traffic.

I know it might not be the best program out there, but if you are looking for a simple network monitor, it fits the bill.

Advantages: Simple, easy to use

Cons: Does not display all processes
