How To Get The Samples
1. Read the “A Quick Detour for Developers: BUILD 2012 Edition” publication for a detailed overview of the Windows 8 Developer Preview.
2. Download the BUILD 2012 Official Samples ZIP Package.
3. Open the zip and extract the samples from the archive.
4. The file you will need is named win8sdksample.sln.
5. Open this file and follow the instructions.
6. Run your sample and enjoy the fun!
The following files will be extracted into your \winrt\x86\Samples\ Visual Studio 2010 sample solution directory:

Search for the files in the archive, and open the solution file.
If you get a prompt to replace the target platform, accept that prompt.
In Visual Studio, the solution file should open as a „Windows Store“ project.
In Visual Studio Express (Desktop), the solution will open as a „Windows Forms“ project.
This solution will be a „Windows Store“ project if it has a *.winmd.h file.
Choose the build configuration you prefer for your project.
This sample uses the „Debug“ build configuration.

Download the Metro style app samples to explore the new programming model, platform, language, and APIs introduced in the Windows 8 Developer Preview!
The samples cover many new concepts in Windows Store applications and are designed to help you quickly start building with the new programming model.
The samples were developed with Visual Studio 2012 Express for Windows 8, and a new build target for Visual Studio 2013. The samples were created using the Windows Runtime language (C#, VB.NET, C++), the new Windows Runtime component APIs, and the new Windows 8 UI design visual languages.
There are 15 samples in the sample package, each building up to a complete end-to-end Windows Store app with a single assembly. More Metro style apps are being built using the same core building blocks and samples!
To get started with the samples, just extract the ZIP package, install the samples in the Visual Studio 2012 Express for Windows 8 Developer Preview, and then go ahead and build and run the apps.

The app stores sample will open in Visual Studio Express for Windows Phone, and will compile and run on Windows 8 devices.
The sample makes use of a number of Windows Phone features, such as the built-in Calendar and People Hubs, as well as Live Tiles, Push Notifications, and Windows Phone 8 Task Based Continuum to provide an example of how these features work together to provide a rich and more intuitive user experience.
