WinPcap is a 100% free and open source packet capturing framework. It’s an offshoot of Jason C. Warren’s PCAP (Portable Network Congestion Analyzer) project. Its implementation is pure C without any bindings to any other language. It is now available for Windows NT4, 2000, XP, Vista, and Windows 7 x32 and x64 versions.
WinPcap contains Windows system-independent drivers to collect the packets of a variety of network interfaces, to filter those packets, and to decode the packets into the raw data.
Even when other solutions already exist, WinPcap requires to setup the capture, analyze, and save operations. Moreover, since the source code of WinPcap is not public, it is not possible to use any of this information without purchasing a non-commercial license from its maintainers. The endothelial glycocalyx has been proposed to exist as an endothelial barrier regulating the shear stress-induced shape of the vessel wall and the endothelial permeability to fluid, macromolecules, and their transendothelial migration. The functional consequences of a reduced glycocalyx caused by external flow conditions were investigated, with special interest in the relation between the hydraulic permeability of the endothelial lining, the mechanical impedance of the cell lining, and its geometric configuration and structure. The hydraulic permeability of the endothelial lining was determined in a parallel-plate flow chamber that simulated the flow pattern of a major blood vessel and applied boundary conditions ranging from fixed-pore to open-pore conditions. A secondary flow was generated within the chamber with the help of a pair of symmetry-constrained Reynolds number-based inlet-grooves located on both sides of the endothelium. The glycocalyx shell was stained with cationized ferritin, and the cell topography was imaged with the help of interference phase-contrast microscopy. Quantitative correlation analyses of hydraulic permeability and mechanical impedance (fitted cell-surface area and thickness) were performed for five different model structures (from closed to semiopen to semiopen to open endothelium).
