However, there is no worry about that: the user identity files are protected by a digital signature, based on the user's private key that is only available to each individual person.
This digital signature is the result of a complex hashing process that is irreversible and will help encrypt your files’ identity and create an associative link between the uploads and the virtual persona you created. Another thing to specify is that, in blockchain, all blocks of code that were added to write information are stored forever, meaning your secret identity can’t be deleted/altered/modified/stolen — it will always belong to you.
Start using the tool and test its functionalities
Although in its early stage (the app is in the pre-release, alpha version), the tool seems promising. The GUI looks very good but could use some practicality and functionality improvements, plus a more intuitive design. The program's main four sections are — 'Files' (for data handling and file management), 'Friend' (a section intended for those who want to rapidly, safely, securely exchange files in the network), 'Settings' (which is definitely not an intuitive part and looks designed for technical people only), and the 'Blockchain' tab (for future scheduled tokenization purposes).
In conclusion, the BitDust initiative is applaudable and it seems to be an extremely resourceful project. I would not advise installation for non-technical people as, in its current form, it might seem overwhelming or a bit frustrating to handle it. Given the amazing form of the alpha version, the well-written documentation, and the team’s roadmap, I can’t wait to see how the project will evolve in the future. BitDust is definitely worth keeping an eye on!

BitDust’s goal is to provide a platform where users can get access to their data from anywhere in the world. A decentralized data storage system, the BitDust framework will allow individuals to upload any data to the network, private or not, an alternative to the cloud services that keep the data in their custody. The framework will be backed by a blockchain where the decentralized storage block store the bytes of all files uploaded in the network to create a distributed storage system.
The BitDust network will be a distributed network where users don’t depend on the traditional centralized storage industry, such as Google Drive, Dropbox, Apple iCloud, Microsoft OneDrive, etc.
How can BitDust system work?
By making it impossible to link your digital assets with your private key; a user can then choose any of the available personal servers/devices to save his data. In addition, all the nodes in the network are configured to be peer-to-peer. When a user „contributes“ data to the network, the nodes connected to it will copy and store the data in their own databases.
Token Economics
The BitDust token will be the sole asset of the BitDust network. The total number of tokens (TBD) that will be in circulation during the ICO and the Pre-ICO phases are 1 billion. Using this limit, the total token supply will be distributed into 1 billion for the ICO phase and 15% for the Pre-ICO phase.
The price of the BitDust token will fluctuate from $0.001 to $0.01 USD in our private sale, with a total burn of 1% of the total pre-ICO valuation. 10% of the total pre-ICO funds will be burnt in exchange for 1 million BitDust tokens. The rest of the pre-ICO funds (90%) are to be spent in the development of the BitDust platform.
The ICO phase has two phases:
– a private phase (Phase 1) in which we will have a cap of 30% of the total BitDust tokens sold for less than $0.02 USD
– an open public phase (Phase 2) in which we will have a cap of 50% of the total BitDust tokens sold for less than $0.02 USD.
The ICO Phase 2 will have a greater efficiency in terms of the amount of funds raised, as the cap will be greater. At the end of Phase 2, the tokens will be minted at the 1:1 ratio during the Pre-ICO phase.
